Intergalaxys

Intergalaxys transports users to speculative worlds through a series of augmented reality portraits of 3 Black womxn of the future. Earth as we know it has ended and Intergalaxys incorporates a collective imagining of future worlds where Black womxn are leaders.  Developed out of a world building session with a group of Black femme artists, technologists, educators, and researchers, each portrait includes a monologue pertaining to the characters respective lives and worlds.

Each world will be modeled off of the terrain in the Caribbean, this is intentional as climate change poses a disproportionate threat to these islands. Our goal is to create 3D assets from the environment in order to digitally preserve the natural world while simultaneously introducing future parallel worlds led by Black womxn leaders. Each world incorporates the Afro-indigenous and creole cultures and languages that have flourished on the islands while maintaining the importance of the Orishas, cultural dances, sounds, and roots that trace back to West Africa.

Audience members will use mobile devices to make augmented reality portraits of 3 Black womxn come to life, and get a glimpse of an afro-futurist speculative reality free from oppression. Below are images of the first character prototypes that were created using 3D scanning, digital character creation software, and Unreal Engine.
